Years ago, the skies ripped open and the world was destroyed in fire and ash. Dragons - once creatures of legend - are the enemy. Vicious and unpredictable, they rule the skies of the ruined cities, forcing humanity to huddle behind barricades for safety.

Claudia's a survivor. She scrapes by as best as she can in a hard, dangerous world. When she runs afoul of the law, she's left as bait in dragon territory. She only has one chance to survive - to somehow 'tame' a dragon and get it to obey her.

Except the dragon that finds her is as wild and brutal as any other...and he's not interested in obeying.

What he is interested in is a mate.

It is hard to believe it has been two months since I read a book for fun. But now, being back at Mom and Dad's house for the summer, I remember why books were such a staple in my young life. The internet here is non-existant, and TV generally sucks, so that leaves books.

This book is so not at all how I imagined it.

After reading the blurb on Goodreads I remember thinking of a scene from Game of Thrones, but the setting is far from Game of Thrones. In a destroyed post-apocalyptic world, Claudia finds herself outside the safety of her city, it the tallest building in downtown Dallas face to face with a dragon named Kael.

When I first got the sample, I could tell the book was not going to be stellar and wow. However, I was sucked into the story and I really did want to know what happened between Claudia and Kael.

Character and plot development could use a lot of work. And just when stuff was starting to happen in the plot, it all came to a screeching halt so the characters could have sex.

I am contemplating reading the second book. The plot sounds very similar to the first book, but the characters are different, so I am very curious to see if anything has changed.

All in all, the book read like someone's sexy fantasy that was not developed enough to be a book yet.

3 stars!
