It has been four months since a mysterious obsidian stone fell into Kell's possession. Four months since nis path crossed with Delilah Bard. Four months since Prince Rhy was wounded, and since the nefarious Dane twins of White London fell, and four months since the stone was cast with Holland's dying body through the rift - back into Black London.

Now, restless after having given up his smuggling habit, Kell is visited by dreams of ominous magical events, waking only to think of Lila, who disappeared from the docks as she always meant to do. As Red London finalizes preparations for the Element Games - an extravagant international competition of magic meant to entertain and keep healthy the ties between neighboring countries - a certain pirate ship draws closer, carrying old friends back into port.

And while Red London is caught up in the pageantry and thrills of the Games, another London is coming back to life. After all, a shadow that was gone in the night will reappear in the morning. But the balance of magic is ever perilous, and for one city to flourish, another London must fall.

What I thought

You have no idea how wonderful it was to read a normal book versus a school book. A Gathering of Shadows couldn't have been a better choice!

The characters are still so wonderful to read and I think the third person POV is starting to grow on me.

Lila, is unique and something special for a girl from Grey London. She always finds herself in situations she shouldn't probably be in, but figures it out.

Then there's Kell, his life bound to another. If Kell dies, the other dies, so Kell feels like he's in a prison and the royal family that raised him no longer see him as a son, but as a tool or a trinket.

And let's not forget about Holland, the only other Antari known to exist.

The end of the book was terrible... just terrible, but that's a good book for you. It was the most perfectly awful cliff hanger. Kell is gone, snatched and without the ability to use his magic, and Lila is just about to find out what she really is. Is this girl from Grey London truly an Antari or is she something else, something more powerful?

The most disappointing part of this series is that they are all coming out in February. I can't read a fun book in February, so I'll have to wait until next summer to read the third and final book in the series. Gah!

Anyway, this book is 5 star material and I urge you to go out and read it. You will not be disappointed, of this I promise.
