Jennifer L. Armentrout

He's arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.

Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn't chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he's saddled with something he's never had to do before: preotect a human from his mortal enemy.

Serena cross didn't believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But the she witnesses her friend's murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.

Hunter stirs Serena's temper and her lust despite their difference. Soon he's doing the unthinkable--breaking the rules he's lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena's life... or is it Hunter?

"Fucking humans and their overpopulated, congested, and noisy cities fell into the top ten things that pissed me off." - Hunter

When Hunter was introduced, I didn't get much of an impression from him other than he was an arrogant seeming ass. Then there was this line, and I instantly fell in love with the bad tempered Arum.

Then there was the lovely line about him wondering how many of the drunk humans would walk out into traffic and end their insignificant lives. Hunter says that was dark, even for him, and I say, nah that's not dark, just honest curiosity. That line is what really made me fall hard for this alien bad boy. So, now you know, I have a dark sense of curiosity, I'm not ashamed of it either.

Throughout the book, as Serens and Hunter's relationship grows and the characters show more and more of their true selves, I was definitely reminded why I am and probably forever will be in love with Jennifer's writing style. And I will always love, love, love how much voice she gives her characters and how sassy they can be at times.

"I needed more wine for this shit." - Serena

Yes! I instantly felt a connection with her since I think that nearly every time I do homework and I haven't even had alcohol yet, not old enough. Not to perpetuate the whole geologists are alcoholics thing, but seriously, you try doing geology without it and you will quickly understand.

"Luxen were like galactic Pringles in a fucked-up way." - Hunter

Up until this book, everything in the world of Jennifer's aliens has been from the Luxen point of view. I was whole heartedly with everyone else in believing that the Arum were the bad guys. But in all honesty, I am totally and completely for Team Arum in this world. Screw the Luxen!

Sorry that wasn't much of a review, but I will say this the book was awesome! I also loved all the swear words, it made the characters seem way more realistic!

I am giving this book a five out of five review! WooHoo!! This is an excellent read. There is plenty of sassyness for you to fall completely head over heels for these characters as well as some pretty hot sex scenes. I haven't read Fifty Shades of Grey, but I feel like these scenes could rival the whole series!

There is only one question that needs to be answered and even though I know this is supposed to be a stand alone book, the question still needs to be asked. But on the book cover it also says An Arum Novel. To me that says there is more to come, so when is the next book coming out?
