Book Review: Good Vibrations

Good Vibrations

Welcome to Paradise #1

Publication:  May 8, 2013 by S.L. Scott

Synopsis:

Fresh off the plane in Hawaii for summer vacation, Colorado college student, Mallory Wray has her world turned upside down when she meets Evan Ashford—a wealthy, playboy surfer who’s drawn to fast cars and big waves. Their passion is sparked by an instant undeniable attraction. With a past he wants to bury and a local rival vying for the girl he wants, he will either let his past define him or decide to fight for his future.

I grab her exploring finger just as it reaches my happy trail—a trail that if I let her wander down further will lead us to do things we can’t take back. Things like three-word phrases being confessed that would end me if I was rejected. Things like selfishly wanting to own her body and doing things to her that would make my fantasies blush. And things like making her promises too soon that won’t do either of us any good. She makes me want a future that’s not possible, and one I don’t deserve.

Listening to my ego got me into this situation. Will listening to my heart get me out?

This book is definitely full of good vibrations and swoon worthy moments. It also has me planning a trip to Hawaii over winter break, the only problem is I need to figure out where to get the money for the hotel. Hmmm... maybe someone like Evan Ashford will pick me up at the airport, want to have wild sex with me, then fall in love with me. Realistic? I think not. But seriously, I am trying to figure out how to get to Hawaii for a couple days.

This book is everything a girl could want when the temperatures drop into the -25 degrees Fahrenheit range. It really is that cold here. Yes, North Dakota does suck a big one sometimes. It has the tropical destination, the "Hawaiian sex god," a semi-love triangle (I'm not sure how I feel about these anymore), and did I mention the warmer weather?

To me, the writing seems a bit below average. And the dialogue is definitely awkward in places. They say too much in one set of " " by going and this, by the way... I'm sure you have all read books like this.

The sexy scenes are beyond awkward, I don't think people talk like that while getting going. It is just really awkward for me. And then pet names the characters have for each other. The main dude calls his girlfriend "baby" all the time. If I ever date someone who calls me baby all the time, please remind me to shoot myself in the head.

I did however enjoy the story line and do want to read the other books in time.
